  1. "Stories from The Onion as interpreted by Facebook "
  2. Looks like a successor to Blosxom and PyBlosxom and maybe also IkiWiki.
  3. I really really hope that they didn't just script this.
  4. Wonderful blog that collects and blogs about single topic blogs.
  5. Not sure how much of this is a critique of the book versus a critique of the review: The argument that Internet is undermining the role of top-down or hierarchical knowledge production is a ridiculous one and is only one that you can make if you don't actually look at the structure of the Internet/web, etc. Preferential attachment and the creation of scale free networks show that these systems are incredibly hierarchical and incredibly "top down." The institutions aren't gone, you just aren't looking for them in their new form.

  7. CC announces the 4.0 process for their new licenses. And it basically looks great. The one exception is the revaluation of the database stuff. The language about not making this works is wise and smart, but it's also going pretty hard to imagine how they could walk that line. The situation now is CC zero for data, or nothing. Anything CC does is going to make that situation worse.

  8. "The Daily Asheesh"
  9. My friend Rahul has created what looks like an awesome blog about visualization and presentation of data.
  10. Mika's art project is getting tons of press! Although my name is on it, Mika did all of the work and then (weirdly) put my name on it. In any case, congrats Mika!
  11. This was brought up by an FSF member at Libre Planet next year. Nice to see closure on this.
  12. People are unhappy with the delicious change of hands and are organizing to create compelling free software alternatives. Sounds good!

  14. Awesome.
  15. "What we are attempting in our Global Education Program instead, is to institutionalize the use of Wikipedia in the classroom. Our goal is to explain to as many teachers as possible what the benefits of using Wikipedia of a teaching tool are. Students are much more motivated when they write for a global audience, instead of just writing for their professor."
  16. A bloggy lit review on the economics of FOSS.
  17. Dark-skinned people spend too much time in the bathroom!
  18. What a mess.
  19. IV response to TAL piece critical of IV. Summary: "Haters gonna hate."
  20. Sage advice.
  21. Mark Shuttleworth is trying to recruit engineering managers to Canonical. I agree that the good engineering managers need not be good engineers. I think solid tech skills do go a long way to helping engineers respect their managers. And that is important.
  22. 1/4.. The complete series is great.
