  1. "My pet Theory of Professional Academic Associations is that the discipline’s organizational life inverts its core intellectual commitments..."
  2. Ouch. This is a bad book review: "The empirical information he provides is perfunctory at best. His command of Marxism seems limited. His historical reach extends to his own earlier works. His vast theoretical apparatus is jimmy-rigged and empty. The graphs are inane, the writing atrocious. To call this book dull as dish water maligns dish water."
  3. "Credit is a sacred trust, it’s what our free society is founded on. Do you think they give a damn about their bills in Russia? I said, do you think they give a damn about their bills in Russia?"
  4. A printed copy of the book is also available! Awesome!
  5. This is pretty opaque, but I think it is really pretty great.
  6. Amazing review of a truly amazing article. Via AaronSw, to whom I am now in debt.
  7. Check out the Reducing Inequality post which were recently featured on Crooked Timber. Recommended reading.
  8. A newspaper columnist once told of her shock when, having struck up a rapport with a man over dinner, she was told at the end of the meal he had no vacancies for friends. 9. I couldn't agree with this more.
  10. A quick look at some of the issues raised by computation research using FB or other social networks.
  11. More books I need to read. Things get added onto this stack a lot faster than I keep up with them.
  12. I could this blog post as my reading list for the next sevreal months.
  13. Apparently, women who work outside the home seem to be slightly less happy than those that do not. Interesting. Haven't read the paper and the results aren't what I would hope for, but it seems interesting.
