There should be a better way of finding your R package than searching though a page of short descriptions of all 2800 package.s But there isn't.

Mark keeps talking about this and I still think it's an interesting idea but there's a massive coordination problem here. Getting some people excited and all the right people excited are two very different things. Mark's record so far seems to be mostly in doing the former.
