  1. This seems like a pretty crazy decision. Bad news for Germans until this gets appealed out of existence.
  2. " An appeals court agreed, with Judge Alex Kozinski saying, "With fame often comes unwanted attention." Noting the often bitter tone taken by companies in this five-year legal battle, Kozinski ordered both sides to behave. "The parties are advised to chill," he said in his ruling."
  3. Dan Ravicher is named lawyer of the week. You can read an expanded version of that phrase if you pay a whole bunch of money to some law journal. I didn't. Congrats Dan!
  4. Very cool oped by Posner on the state of the patent system. He thinks its totally broken but, because he's Richard Posner, he has some ideas of what to do about it.

This is another instance where the CAFC went far beyond merely interpreting the patent statute in order to benefit patentees and harm the public. I am confident it will be another instance where the Supreme Court will correct the CAFC."

  11. What a horror story. I'm glad Erik is finally setting the record straight.
  12. I believe the number but I think it's not true to say that each C&D letter translates into payment. My general understanding is that these letters are being used as a way of getting ISPs to turn users off, not to extra money directly.
  13. Google clobbers Cyanogen's modded builds. Interesting. This article has both good links to all the key points and articles and good commentary

  17. Nice writeup of the MS/TT settlement with an important focus on the GPLv3 and what it can do for us
  18. Awesome write of the whole TPB trial outcome from someone who has closely followed the whole thing.
