The most interesting part, I think, is that the porn industry is actively involved in copyright litigation. I have often held them up as an example of an industry who didn't have litigation as an option and, as a result, had to be more creative.

I believe the number but I think it's not true to say that each C&D letter translates into payment. My general understanding is that these letters are being used as a way of getting ISPs to turn users off, not to extra money directly.
