  1. Useful advice after visiting a sulferic hot spring...
  2. I saw this as a MetaFilter question once. That thread did more to expand my reading list than any single page. Pretty nice to see it (or something like it) distilled into a site.
  3. (via daf)
  4. Hopefully by the time I want this, I won't need it any more.
  5. "There’s no DRM field in the product listing, but it turns out there’s an easy way to tell: just check under product details whether the title has device usage set to unlimited. If so, there’s no DRM."
  6. Nice design for some nice air pillows.
  7. I strongly suspect this will come in handy soon.
  8. Nice. Via Daf.
  9. It's a good idea to buy a cheap ice cream maker. But homemade ice cream is important and people who haven't gotten one can use this recipe in the mean time (via Ari).
  10. The description of fitting coxph to time dependent data here seems to be better than any I've found yet.
  11. I think this would be pretty easy to do with gpplot2, but Portfolio looks like its worth checking out too.
  12. Zotero + OpenOffice.org integration is apparently just broken in Lucid due to some changes in the move away from Sun Java to OpenJDK. This page offers a couple explanations of how to fix this.
  13. Excellent!
  14. I swear I remember this diagram from the GNU Arch days.
  15. Nice write-up of how to ask great questions in seminars. Someday I'll be able to do it like Yochai Benkler or Roberto Fernandez.
  16. How to highlight in LaTeX. There are two recipes here. The first one is bad and wrong. :)
